HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR HAIR COLOR.
You spend time and money on achieving that perfect color. Only for it to fade. Now, with the launch of Noughty’s new Colour Bomb regime, you can finally fight fade the natural way. What’s more, for all you Noughty color queens, here are our hints and tips for making the most of your hair color. Listen to your hair, understand the factors that contribute to fade, and build a regime to ignite that color explosion.
BEFORE YOUR NEXT SALON SESSION
CONDITION
Dry, damaged, dehydrated hair is missing the moisture that will help anchor pigment molecules into the cuticle, increasing the odds of fade. Don’t wait for the hairdresser to suggest a treatment. Indulge thirsty hair with a moisture mask like To The Rescue Intense Moisture Treatment.
DETOX
No matter the cause, (hard water, minerals, silicones, environmental pollutants) build up puts a barrier between your color and you. So be sure to use Detox Dynamo for a couple of washes before your next visit to the colorist and improve the lifespan of your shade.
CONSIDER REDS
Crimson pigments are bigger molecules than browns, blondes and blacks. The size contributes to making them the least stable of the shades and therefore the hardest to prevent from fading. Becoming a stunning redhead, will therefore make your mane higher maintenance so beware. That much attention, doesn’t come without work.
BETWEEN SALON SESSIONS
24HRS
Do not wash your hair for at least 24 hours (and ideally 48 or more) after it’s colored. This will help to extend the freshness of your color.
WASH LESS
Since we know that water dilutes your color, gradually washing it out of your hair, it’s just common sense that the less you wash the longer your color will last.
COOLER FOR COLOR
Hot water opens the cuticle more than lukewarm water. Washing hair in cooler water will help fight fade.
SAY NO TO BRASSY TONES
Make a purple shampoo and conditioner like Purple Reign a go-to in fighting brassy tones for highlighted, grey or blonde hair.
COLOR PROTECTION
Products that are specially formulated to protect your color and enhance your shade, like Noughty's new Colour Bomb shampoo and conditioner, should form the backbone of your regime. Formulated with antioxidants and color protecting ingredients, these are the best weapons in your battle against color-sapping elements.
WASHLESS
Co-washes like 1 Hit Wonder are formulated with less surfactants, making them the perfect partner to color protecting products when you’re creating a shade-extending regime.
HEAT PROTECT
Whether you’re going blonde, black, brunette or red, heat is the enemy of your shade. Use styling products with heat protection like Rise & Shine, Hydrate and Shine Serum and To The Rescue, Anti Frizz Serum to defend cuticles against aggression from the extreme temperatures of heat styling tools.
(HEAT) STYLE LESS
Whether your styling tool of choice is a curling wand, a blow dryer or a flat iron, you’re using extreme heat to bend your barnet to your will. So consider reducing the number of times a week you use heat to increase the lifespan of your shade.
OUT AND ABOUT
MAD HATTER
When it comes to protecting your ‘do from the sun’s color fading UV, it’s a case of out of sight out of mind. So slip, slap or slide a hat on your head if you’re going to be catching some rays.
LEAVE IN
Applying a leave in conditioner like Intensive Care Conditioner before you explore the great outdoors will enhance the barrier between your hair and the world. Keeping hair moisturized, smooth and supple is a basic step you can take to slow fade and enhance your shades shine.
SWIMMER’S REVENGE
Swimmers face more challenges than most when it comes to retaining your chosen shade, but there are three simple steps you can take to even the odds. Never get into chlorinated water with dry hair – thoroughly wetting hair with normal water will reduce the amount of chlorinated water it absorbs. Apply a conditioner before swimming – this moisturizes and creates a barrier to pool water. Always, always, always rinse chlorine out of your hair before it can dry and build up on hair.
Vibrant Color. Dark Horse. Go on, ignite that color explosion.
